Question: How can I help?
Answer: Here are ways that you can help:

1.) Bequests: Add a bequest of personal property, real estate or financial assets to Feed the Petz in your will.
2.) Sponsor a Pet Food Distribution Day: When you sponsor a Pet Food Distribution Day, you can help provide much needed food for where it is very much needed.
3.) Monetary Donations: Checks should be made out to: Feed the Petz and mailed to 4228 Pine Lane, Alexandria, Virginia 22312.
4.) Make a Tribute: You can make a donation in honor or memory of an individual or animal companion. This is a special way to commemorate your loved ones,friends and acquaintances (people and animals alike) while helping Feed the Petz. Your gift to Feed the Petz can be used to honor living persons or animals or to memorialize those who have passed on.
5.) There are Many Other Ways You Can Help:
-- Canine Food of all Kinds- dry and canned
-- Feline Food of all Kinds- dry and canned
-- Canine & Feline Treats of all Kinds
-- Small Animal Foods like Rabbit, Ferret, Fish, Bird etc.
-- Storage Bins & Shelves
-- Larger Space- Warehouse or Storefront - loading dock needed
-- Forklift
-- Delivery Van

Question: What if I cannot complete an application online?
Answer: If you are unable to complete an application online,

and someone will assist you by phone.

Question: Where are you located?
Answer: We currently don't have an office, however, we distribute pet food once a month at the following location:
Mason District Governmental Center
 
We do not have an office at that location and are not there any other times of the month.

Question: Who must I contact if I need to set-up an appointment to pick-up pet food or cancel?
Answer: To Confirm or Cancel for Distribution Day:

Question: Can I bring my pets into the building when I pick-up pet food?
Answer: Sorry, no pets are allowed in the building.

Question: If I am unable to make it on distribution date, can you meet me any other time and location?
Answer: No. However, you may have a family member or friend pick-up for you on distribution day once.

Question: Should I bring anything with me when I pick-up pet food for the very first time?
Answer: Yes, you should bring an ID to verify that you are who you say that you are.
 
  • Gleaners and One-Time Assistance Applicants must show ID. 
  • Applicants applying for Short Term Assistance must show ID and also provide proof of a current rabies certificate and proof of spay or neuter which also serves as verification of pet ownership. The name on the rabies certificate must match the name on the application and the applicant’s photo ID. If a rabies certificate is not available, a vet record, document of adoption from rescue group or shelter or a photo of pet parent and pet will be accepted. Please make copies if possible.

 

  • Temp applicants must also submit proof that they are receiving public assistance, such as:   A copy of a Social Security Award Letter, Unemployment Statement etc. A referral from a Social Worker or copy of a Food stamps/SNAP/TANF or Medicaid eligibility letter. We will also consider special circumstances. We may also consider the income of other members of the household in order to make a qualifying determination.

Question: How can I find out if a distribution day has been canceled due to inclimate weather?
Answer: We make every effort to be there even during inclimate weather. There are times, however, when the center may close because of a power outage caused by inclimate weather. This is beyond our control and we apologize in advance for any inconvenience. If this ever happens, check our main page for updates. Usually, it will be posted at the very top of the page. If for any reason we do not have electric to get online and update our site, please call (703) 941-0052. Thanks

Question: Do you deliver pet food?
Answer: Unfortunately, we are temporarily unable to deliver pet food at this time.

Question: How much pet food will I get?
Answer: If applying for Short Term Assistance, the amount of pet food that each client  (household) receives will be the same. Like most pantries, we provide a supplement and not a complete source to last the entire month. The amount of pet food will not be distributed based on number of pets and the weight or size of a pet. It will be equally divided among clients.  
 
If gleaning, the amount of pet food received may vary based on what we may have on hand at the time.

Question: What kind of pet foods do you distribute?
Answer: We mainly have a large variety of dry and canned for dogs and cats. We may occasionally have ferret food, rabbit food, turtle food, fish food, hamster food, parakeet food and gerbil food. Also, we may have cat litter, dog and cat collars, food dishes, carriers, crates, pet toys, pet shampoo, flea care products and much more.

Question: Can I have a receipt for any donation that I make?
Answer: Yes, we can give you a receipt. All donations are tax deductible.
